Calling it his “top priority this legislative session,” Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver introduced a bill Monday to raise the minimum wage in New York state to $8.50 an hour and index it to inflation to ensure wages keep pace with the cost of living.The wage boost would benefit about 900,000 low-wage workers, according to the Fiscal Policy Institute, a liberal think tank.
