The 48,346-employee payroll of New York City’s financially stressed Health and Hospitals Corporation swelled to $2.9 billion last year, a 16 percent jump from $2.5 billion in 2014, according to data added today to SeeThroughNY.net, the Empire Center’s transparency website.

The Corporation was one of 312 employers, including industrial development agencies (IDAs), regional transportation authorities, and sewer and water authorities, for which fiscal 2016 payroll data were added.

The payroll data reflects pay received during the employer’s fiscal year ending in 2016. Previous updates include the FY2016 payrolls from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Port Authority of NY & NJ.

Some individuals appear twice in the SeeThroughNY database because they perform work for both a public authority, such as a local IDA, and a state or local government agency. These individuals may receive compensation from only one or both employers.
