Ever wonder where all the state’s money comes from and how it’s divvied up?
The Empire Center for Public Policy has an effective new tool that breaks it all down in an easy-to-use fashion
The conservative-leaning think tank has a new, interactive set of spreadsheets and charts up on SeeThroughNY.net, its transparency website best known for maintaining a comprehensive list of public salaries. It includes Cuomo’s budget proposal, which was unveiled on Tuesday.
Essentially, the website takes spreadsheets from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s newly launched “Open Budget NY” site and boils them down into an easily-accessible form.
“Governor Cuomo deserves credit for promoting the use of the latest technology to spread access to important public information,” E.J. McMahon, senior fellow at the Empire Center, said in a statement. “Consistent with his initiative, our app will give taxpayers direct access to high-value, regularly updated data on how their money is raised and spent in Albany.”
