Losing his free “E-ZPass for life” has taken such a toll on the city’s former downtown construction czar that he’s suing the Port Authority for nearly $10 million.
Charles Maikish, 65, a longtime Port Authority administrator who later led the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center, whines that the PA broke its promise to him in 1996 to give him a free ride on bridges and tunnels “without limitation.”
In a money-saving move, the bi-state agency has scaled back on passes provided to public officials, present and former commissioners and retirees. Only current PA workers on staff before 9/11 and the spouses of PA employees killed on 9/11 or in the 1993 attack still get the benefit….
