Nearly half of the registered nurses at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility are doubling – in some cases tripling – their salaries with overtime and other extra pay to bring around-the-clock health care to inmates.
Fernande Daniel, a nurse with 15 years on the job, made $76,747 working 1,431 hours in overtime last year on top of the regular 37.5 hours per week.
Daniel’s total pay: $151,728.
Another nurse, Carolyn Carroll, made more than $100,000 in extra pay, which includes racking up 1,448 hours of over time last year.
Her total pay: $151,180.
Eight nurses at the state’s only maximum-security prison for women made more than $125,000 after factoring in thousands of hours in overtime, vacation, location, longevity, back pay and other types of extra pay on top of their base salary of $50,826 in 2007.
