The Empire Center – in its latest look at soaring pension costs – found that 13% of the cops and firefighters from outside of New York City who retired last year received pensions of $100,000 or more.
Most of the 125 new retirees worked for agencies in Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley and the Port Authority.
The center based its findings on data from the state Police and Fire Retirement System and the state Employee Retirement System, which cover most municipalities outside of New York City.
The highest new pension went to Philip Wood, former vice chancellor for capital facilities at the State University of New York. His $186,295 pension is the 10th highest for all retired members of the two systems.
The number of state pension system retirees earning six-figure pensions has now reached 272, up from just 37 in the year 2000….
