A poll released this morning by the Empire Center, an arm of the conservative Manhattan Institute, found 71 percent of public school teachers surveyed would support the option of a defined-contribution pension, like a 401(k).
Cuomo included such a provision as part of his budget, calling it Tier VI. He also adjusted the defined-contribution side of things, increasing the length employees must wait before they vest in the traditional pension program.
Twenty-six percent of the 500 teachers surveyed said they would have enrolled in the option, the poll finds. It was conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, a Republican-linked firm….
