More than one out of every 10 police officers and firefighters in the New York state pension system retired last year with pensions exceeding $100,000 a year, a new report shows.

Of 933 uniformed officers who retired in 2011, 95 received six-figure pensions.

The number of $100,000- plus pensioners is three times higher than a decade ago, rising at a rate that far exceeds cost-of-living increases, according to an analysis by the Empire Center for NY State Policy.

The Empire Center’s E.J. McMahon said that massive overtime and other compensatory perks provided to suburban and Port Authority officers contributed to the gold-plated pensions.

“The only way you get to $100,000 is with overtime and supplemental pay,” McMahon said.

The data include all police and fire officers outside New York City who are enrolled in the state pension system. New York City cops and firefighters are enrolled in separate systems and are not included in the study.

The top pensioner from 2011 was former Town of Clarkstown Police Chief Peter Noonan, who receives $193,892.04.
