State Controller Thomas DiNapoli is supposed to keep an eye on the bottom line, but his website gives state workers tips on padding their pensions, a new report said Friday.
The state’s top bean counter tells public employees to stockpile vacation days and to work as much overtime as possible in their last year before retiring, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported.
“The controller is inviting public employees to ‘game’ the system … at taxpayers’ expense,” Lise Bang-Jensen of the conservative Empire Center told the paper.
DiNapoli, who recently said taxpayers should pay more than $1 billion next year to fund pension obligations, countered that he is only telling workers about their rights.
