The next principal of Queensbury High School has been found.
Superintendent Douglas Huntley said he will recommend the Board of Education appoint Kristine Orr, who has been Queensbury’s director of secondary curriculum since 2007.
While she begins the job on Monday, the board will vote on the recommendation at its Aug. 8 meeting.
After a two-month search, Orr was chosen from a small group of finalists. Queensbury had received 90 applications, Huntley said.
While the pool of candidates was strong, Orr rose above the others because she’s familiar with the district and has demonstrated leadership while in several roles at the district, Huntley said.
“Kristine Orr is student centered to begin with. She has very strong skills in curriculum, instruction and assessment,” he said.
Orr has spent 12 years at the high school, first as a math teacher, then as assistant principal from 2004 to 2007.
She was involved in developing the high school’s block scheduling and 21st-century classrooms.
“Queensbury has been my home for the past 12 years, and I am thrilled to continue to be a part of this district and community,” Orr said in a press release. “I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead of me as the high school principal and to building a strong relationship with our students, staff, parents and community.”
She replaces Michael Patton, who left on July 1 to become the superintendent of the South Glens Falls Central School District.
Huntley said he did not have Orr’s new salary, which needs board approval.
In 2010-11, Orr earned a salary of $91,810, according to the website www.seethroughny.net, which contains a database of payrolls, pensions and contracts of state workers and agencies.
Huntley said Orr’s old position as director of secondary curriculum will not be filled.
