My latest Newsday column looks at the complexity of the New York State’s personal income tax, the temporary income tax changes enacted last December, and Governor Cuomo’s promise (so far, unfulfilled) to appoint a commission to consider a “comprehensive overhaul” of the tax code.
I note that, with the scheduled expiration of the Bush tax cuts at the end of this year, the federal tax code is on the cusp of major changes that could further curtail or even eliminate the ability of New York taxpayers (especially tax-bracket payers) to claim itemized deductions for state and local taxes.
