Want to know how much your child’s teacher makes? How about how your school tax rate compares with neighboring districts?
Two new online databases are now available to answer both of those questions.
SeeThroughNY, a Web site set up by the Empire Center for Public Policy, announced Thursday a new database allowing anyone to see gross salaries for teachers and administrators from the 2007-08 school year for any school district in the state.
The system covers all school employees who are members of the state Teachers’ Retirement System, which administers pensions for educators outside New York City. Salaries can be searched by name of the employee, school district and salary level, and all the information can be downloaded in a spreadsheet or a comma-delimited database file.
For salaries paid out in the 2008-09 school year, SeeThroughNY recommends multiplying the 2007-08 salary figures by 1.056, reflecting the average 5.6 percent salary increase reported in the annual teacher contract survey by the New York State School Boards Association.
Also posted at the site are searchable databases of teachers’ union and superintendent contracts for 733 school districts…
