An Albany, N.Y., think tank posted a new database Wednesday containing pension data for more than 340,000 retired state and local government employees.
The data reveal University at Albany President George Philip has the highest annual pension, at $261,037. The pension stems from Philip’s previous 36-year career with the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System, including time as its executive director.
In all, the state pension system has 1.04 million members, retirees and beneficiaries. It paid $7.6 billion of payments in the state’s previous fiscal year.
The average annual pension for someone who retired last year was $26,000 for government employees and $62,000 for police or firefighters…
