The number of retirees eligible for six-figure pensions from New York’s two teacher retirement systems nearly tripled between 2009 and 2014, according to new pension data posted today on SeeThroughNY.net.
The data show that 4,841 New York City Teachers’ Retirement System (NYCTRS) and New York State Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS) retirees were eligible to receive pensions over $100,000 during 2014, up from 1,663 in 2009. Ten individuals were eligible to receive pensions larger than $300,000 in 2014.
The new records, detailing 227,456 pensions during 2014, reflect the actual payment received for retirees from New York City schools and the maximum eligible benefit for those outside the city. Lists of the 100 largest pensions from NYCTRS and NYSTRS can be viewed here and here.
