Five area school superintendents have made the list of the top 20 salaries in the north country for 2013-14 in a report released Thursday by the Empire Center for Public Policy.

Salmon River Central School Superintendent Jane A. Collins earns $140,689 a year, putting her in 10th place on the list according to the data posted at SeeThroughNY.net.

Ogdensburg City School Superintendent Timothy M. Vernsey is 15th at $135,611, Malone Central Schools Superintendent Jerry E. Griffin is 16th at $135,000, St. Lawrence Central School Superintendent Stephan J. Vigliotti Sr. is 17th at $134,899, and Potsdam Central School Superintendent Patrick H. Brady is 18th at $134,535.

Leading the list for the north country region is Watertown City School District Superintendent Terry N. Fralick, who earns $181,280 a year, not including benefits.

The newly updated database includes pay information for 367,867 employees, as reported to the New York State Teachers Retirement System for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2014, and to the New York State and Local Retirement System for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2014.

Not reflected in the data are the costs of fringe benefits such as health care, pension contributions and other employee benefits.
