New Yorkers can now search for the names, titles, base salaries and total wages of 394,443 individuals who were employed by the New York City government during 2010 at SeeThroughNY.net, the transparency website sponsored by the Empire Center for Public Policy.
The searchable database of city employees, obtained from the city Office of Payroll Administration, provides both base salary rates and total reported 2010 pay, including overtime. This table provides summary information of major agencies.
Among other findings, the data show a median annual pay rate of $63,228 among all city employees, and that 25 percent of city employees classified as annual have a pay rate that exceeds $78,000 per year.
SeeThroughNY allows the public to examine government expenditures on the Internet. In addition to the New York City government payroll, it includes payrolls for New York State government, school districts, counties, municipalities and public authorities throughout the state. Also posted are public employee pension data, state legislator office expenditures, pork barrel “member item” spending, and a benchmarking feature for comparing local government and school district spending. The site was launched July 31, 2008.
